What is a Secret Key?

A Secret Key is a unique code used to authenticate and secure communication between Kickpages Whitelabel and certain payment providers. Think of it as a password that only you and the payment provider know, ensuring that actions like account creation or granting access to paid plans are performed only for real, verified payments.

Why Does It Matter?

  • Some payment providers require the Secret Key to be included in the webhook event they send after a payment is completed.

  • The Secret Key helps verify that the event (such as a successful payment or account creation) is legitimate and actually comes from your account.

  • Not all payment processors use it—for some providers, you won’t need to do anything with the Secret Key.

When You Don’t Need to Worry About It

  • If your payment processor or integration tutorial does not mention the Secret Key, you can safely ignore it for that integration.

  • You will only need to use it if the setup instructions specifically ask for it.

Example Use Case

Let’s say you connect a third-party payment service (like a custom shopping cart or an affiliate platform) to Kickpages:

  • When someone buys a plan, the payment provider sends a webhook (notification) to your Kickpages webhook URL.

  • That webhook includes the Secret Key.

  • Kickpages checks that the Secret Key matches what’s stored for your account, and if it does, it processes the transaction (e.g., creates a user account, grants plan access).

Without the correct Secret Key, Kickpages will ignore the request—so your plans stay secure.

Where Do I Find My Secret Key?

  • Your Whitelabel Plans Secret Key is located on the Plans page in Kickpages Whitelabel (left sidebar).

  • Copy it when a tutorial or integration guide says you need it.

Does Kickpages Use the Secret Key?

  • Yes, Kickpages uses the Secret Key as a security check when processing incoming events (like account creation or plan changes) from supported payment processors.

  • If a payment processor or integration requires it, including the correct Secret Key ensures your automation works and keeps your account safe.

In Summary

  • The Secret Key is not always required, but when it is, it’s essential for secure and successful automation.

  • Always follow integration guides closely: If you don’t see a step about the Secret Key, you can skip it.

  • Never share your Secret Key publicly.
